The following projects were undertaken in 2010:
In connection with the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce’s Airport Festival, four $1,500 college scholarships were awarded to high school students from the Chamber’s service area.
Green Medians Project
The Green Medians Project is a volunteer effort to raise $500,000 to $600,000 to add landscaping and irrigation to the medians that the Texas Department of Transportation constructed on FM 1960 in 2010. As a result of fundraising efforts such as meetings, letters, internet and email promotions, and a stroll-a-thon, contributions received during 2008, 2009, and 2010 had totaled $490,787.95 as of December 31, 2010. Of that total, $372,754.81 was raised during 2010. Amounts paid to landscape architects for work on medians design during 2010 were $20,070.
The Grow Northwest Initiative is the Chamber’s Economic Development Initiative. The Foundation voted to serve as a partner with the Chamber in the fundraising and execution of Grow Northwest projects. For more information on Grow Northwest, go to www.GrowHoustonNW.com
